(1). Senior Discounts are available on air, rail, sea, and land, for the ASKING.
(2). Some cruise lines (i.e., RCCL, HAL) offer Senior Specials.
(3). Most airlines offer Senior Discounts ONLY if you join their SNR Clubs (you need to weigh the cost of joining against any perceived values). Southwest Airlines always offers a standard $125.00 (+ tax) each way fare Senior fare. Ask your agent to check the best promotional fare against the Senior fares...they Senior fares are fully refundable, changeable and are a better value the longer your flight distances.
NOTE: Southwest considers a Senior to be 65 years plus, while others consider 62 the entry age.
(4). Are you a single senior? Ask about "Share Programs". HAL and motor coach operators like Trafalgar will match you with someone of "like characteristics" to share the stateroom or room and thus save the dreaded "Single Supplement" - which can be 150% additional. If they cannot match you properly, then you still get the room as a single, but at the double rate. Just ask your travel agent for assistance.
(5). AMTRAK offers 15% off for Seniors, and you need to look carefully at local rail service, i.e., MARC RAIL (1-800-325-RAIL). The MARC leaves Perryville three times daily in the early morning for Baltimore, BWI or Washington, D.C. (Union Station), and returns with four trains departing D.C. starting at 4:30pm with the last out of D.C. at 8:00pm...Monday thru Friday only. The rate if you are 62 is approx. $9.00 roundtrip! What a deal/what a great Day Trip!!
(6). Always ask to be put on the travel agencies mailing list (newsletters etc.). This is a great way to scout-out good deals and pick-up some pointers. You should also check a travel agency web site, .i.e., www.hilltravelcentre.com for updates and to use the search links.
(7). Do NOT hesitate to join a special group departure offered by your travel agency. You do not have to be a member of this group nor participate in any of the group’s activities if you don't want to. You are going on this trip to use the group’s lower rates, not to join the group.
(8). Want to see the USA? You can do it by air, rail, motor coach, or sea or a tour program that uses any one or all of the above. Take a good look at Globus, Tauck, Trafalgar, Brendan, Mayflower, and Collette Tours. These are very good tour operators who offer USA & Canada programs that include transportation, accommodations, many meals and all of the sightseeing.
(9). Are you a member of a non-profit group that needs financial help? Your travel agent can help you set-up a group, and show you how to work with Tour Operators who provide matching funds for non-profit bookings.
(10). All hotels offer some type of Senior Discounts. In addition, you might get a better deal if you check-out Promotional, Internet or Preferred rates on our Agency Reservation system: Amadeus. It would be worth your while to do so as there is no other source that provides over 100,000 discounted rooms around the world, daily. Special Note: Royal Caribbean Cruises offer "best available" rates and cabin assignments on many sailings as long as there is one person 55 years old in the cabin.
