Cecil County: Go to Chesapeake City for a great ride on the Miss Clare, dining, and a bit of shopping. Visit The Upper Bay Museum and The Day Basket Factory in North East, and St. Mary Anne’s (shop and eat as well).
Kent/Queen Anne’s County: Go to Rock Hall for lunch, and a visit to Eastern Neck Wildlife Refuge (beautiful) and Waterman’s Museum. Stop by the Kent Island Exploration Center, The Wye Grist Mill, Historic Stevensville, (plus great restaurants).
Talbot County: Stop in St. Michaels for some shopping, and eat at the best on Tilghman Island, Harrison’s, and a cruise on the Dockside Express, and leave a little time to ride the Bellevue Ferry (oldest operating one in the US-1686) from Oxford to Bellevue.
Caroline & Dorchester County: Tour the Clydesdale Horse Farm near Denton (Caroline County) and then south to Secretary and have a luncheon cruise at Suicide Bridge Restaurant. Tour Cambridge (home of Harriett Tubman, Bea Arthur, and Annie Oakley. Also leave room to visit Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and watch how professional crab pickers work at JM Clayton. Don’t forget about the spa and golf at the Hyatt.
Harford County: Visit Havre de Grace and the Susquehanna Lock House Museum, The Decoy Museum, The Concord Point Lighthouse, Tydings Park, sail on The Lantern Queen (just cruise and/or take the luncheon cruise), and top it off with homemade candy and ice cream at Bomboy’s. Please do not miss Ladew Topiary Gardens, and Fiore Winery: Both offer tours and both are very interesting.
Wicomico County: Have kids? Visit the Salisbury Zoo (free of charge) and play at Ben’s Red Swings. The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art displays world champion decorative carvings. Pemberton Historical Park is 200 acres of hiking trails for humans and horses and a chance to see a glimpse of life in colonial MD. Visit Bordeleau Vineyards and Winery in Eden and of course, don’t forget to watch the Delmarva Shorebirds, class A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.
Worcester County: Tired of Ocean City? Stroll through historic Berlin with its quaint shops and galleries. Have lunch at the Atlantic Hotel (“Runaway Bride” film site) or The Globe where you can also catch a movie or live music.
Nottingham, PA: Tour Herr’s in Nottingham and not only see how potato chips are made, but get free samples!
Washington DC: Buy a ticket to Washington, DC on the MARC train (1-800-325-RAIL) M-Fri. In Perryville. Arrive at Union Station and you are steps away from the Capitol Building and The Smithsonian Complex (free admission and a number of fascinating features). You can also purchase a “jolly trolley” ticket and get on and off at every tourist attraction in DC, all day long.
